Induction 2022 update – Induction Taskforce

By Angela Young, on 8 July 2022

As we mentioned in our previous update, we are looking forward to welcoming all our students to campus for the start of session 2022/23 with a host of face to face induction activities and opportunities. This is important not only for our new students, but also students who have been with us for a year or two but feel they have not yet experienced the full, vibrant and exciting buzz of campus life.

We are inviting all library staff, irrespective of role and at any grade, to get involved with meeting, greeting and supporting our students whilst experiencing the buzz for themselves as part of a Library Induction Taskforce. Contribute as much or as little as you are able during Induction Week (week commencing 26 September). It is a fantastic opportunity to meet and work with other colleagues from across LCCOS, to broaden your experience of providing support to students and to develop or enhance your professional skills.

Activities in which you can get involved include:

  • Support Services Fair: Help staff a stand, promote our services and answer questions. (1 hr shifts, Mon, Tue, Wed, 10.30-15.00, South Cloisters).
  • ‘Getting Started’ spaces in Main and Science libraries: Meet and greet students. (1 hr shifts, Mon – Fri, 10.00-16.00).
  • Explore demonstrations: Drop-in demonstrations of Explore with searching activities for students. A great opportunity to deliver or support a short teaching session. (Mon – Fri, 12.00 and 12.30, Science Library cluster room).
  • Induction events at UCL East: Includes Support Services Fair (Fri am), or meeting and greeting students in the One Pool Street library space.
  • Online Q&A support, ‘UCL 101: Navigating your first term’ (TBC): This student-led, face to face event is repeated throughout induction week and may require facilitators to answer questions relating to Library Services, submitted through an online system. (May be carried out remotely).

All staff will be fully briefed and provided with information needed to contribute to the activities.

If you would like to get involved, please complete the Library Induction Taskforce – Expression of interest form, after getting consent from your line manager and prioritising support for induction activities at your own library site as required.
