The Deaf Trio of Smyrna (Izmir)

We love this photograph of three Deaf gentlemen in Smyrna, circa 1910 I would guess (certainly in that period), but what are they drinking? I supposed at first it was tea but there are bottles. If anyone has any Turkish contacts in Izmir, it would be great to know if they can identify any of these men – clearly they were well known locally.
