Lady Pentland Visits the Madras Deaf School, around 1912-19
By H Dominic W Stiles, on 25 October 2013
This picture requires further research but we assume it is dated to between 30 October 1912 – 29 March 1919, the period when Lord Pentland was governor of Madras (not India as the caption states). You can read a little about Lady Pentland on Wikipedia. Thanks to those who have commented. If you know more please email us or comment, and I will see if I can find more information on the school.

This picture brings back my childhood memories. No, I wasn’t a student at the school but my family (mom, dad and elder brother) lived in the school quarters. My dad used to take care of agriculture and horticulture at the school. Miss Amy Boyd is one of the most sweetest person we have ever lived with in our life. She made us part of her family. We used to live and play inside the school with other children. I was born and raised within this school campus till my 2nd or 3rd grade. Miss Amy Boyd used to drive a Volkswagen van and sometimes used to give us a ride which is best fun a kid could have at those times. I am talking about the 1980s.
The picture refers to the CSI School for the Deaf at Mylapore, Chennai 600004, India. I was a volunteer at this school from 1972 to 1973, when Miss Amy Boyd was Principal.
