Ways of Seeing on Ubuweb

waysofseeing1.jpgJohn Berger’s 1972 BBC tv series Ways of Seeing is now available in full on Ubuweb. A series of visual essays which question the hidden ideologies of images, the programme was accompanied by a book of the same title which can be found in the library at ART BA BER.

Tarkovsky films available online

tarkovsky.jpgAndrei Tarkovsky’s seven feature films are now available to watch online at the Open Culture website. Open Culture has also compiled an extensive list of films available from other sources, including titles by Ken Loach, Frank Capra, Sergei Eisenstein, Fritz Lang and many more.

BBC Archives

Henry MooreThe BBC Archive site now features a series of themed collections of radio and TV programmes, documents and photographs. As well as art & culture, the collections cover subjects such as science, lifestyle, politics, and the environment. The most recently added collection, on the theme of Second Wave Feminism, features topics such as the Coffee Bar Ban on Women (Nationwide, 1971), Equality at Cambridge University (Tonight, 1963), and The Lesser Half (Women at Work, 1974).

There are also collections relating to Henry Moore at the BBC and Francis Bacon at the BBC.

Gertrude SteinWomen of the avant-garde is a part of the Avant-garde all the time series of podcasts which are made up of materials from Ubuweb presented by Kenneth Goldsmith. It includes audio clips from Gertrude Stein, Yoko Ono, Kathy Acker, Laurie Anderson and many more.

Avant-garde all the time is part of the Poetry Foundation website.

Tate Channel

Tate ChannelThe old Tate Player has been relaunched as the Tate Channel. Current ‘Editor’s Picks’ include films on John Baldessari, Lucy Skaer and Jill Magid. As well as interviews, talks and performances, the site includes a section of films by artists, including Yinka Shonibare, Kutlug Ataman, Fischli & Weiss, and Langlands & Bell.

ICA talks

ICA talksThe British Library has added more than 1,000 hours of ICA talks to it’s Archival Sound Recordings. The broad range of subjects covered include film, literature, visual art, gender studies, technology and cultural studies. The talks feature, among many others, Marina Abramovic, Chantal Akerman, Ed Allington, David Batchelor, Christian Boltanski,  Chris Burden, Victor Burgin, Sophie Calle, Mark Dion, Liam Gillick, Isaac Julien, Adrian Piper, and Cerith Wyn Evans. The collection can be browsed by contributor, subject or date.
