Progress update, 9 to 15 June 2012

By Tim Causer, on 15 June 2012

Welcome to the progress update for the period 9 to 15 June, during which time quite tremendous progress has been made – 2% of all 7,464 manuscripts uploaded to the Transcription Desk were worked on during this last week.

3,663 manuscripts have now been worked on, which is an increase of 82 on last week’s total. That makes 9 to 15 June 2012 the joint-second (along with 10 to 16 March 2012) most busy week ever in terms of transcription; this period is only beaten by late December 2010 and early January 2011. This is an incredible amount of work, and we are hugely grateful. Of these transcripts,  3,418 (93%) are complete, up 84 on last week’s total.

The more detailed state of progress is as follows:

  • Box 2: 331 manuscripts transcribed of 532 (62%)
  • Box 27: 305 of 350 (87%)
  • Box 35: 231 of 439 (52%)
  • Box 50: 58 of 92 (63%)
  • Box 51: 60 of 940 (6%)
  • Box 62: 51 of 565 (9%)
  • Box 70: 169 of 250 (48%)
  • Box 71: 578 of 665 (86%)
  • Box 72: 535 of 664 (80%)
  • Box 73: 140 of 156 (89%)
  • Box 79: 78 of 199 (39%)
  • Box 95: 51 of 147 (34%)
  • Box 96: 522 of 539 (96%)
  • Box 97: 25 of 288 (8%)
  • Box 100: 76 of 429 (17%)
  • Box 115: 245 of 307 (79%)
  • Box 116: 170 of 864 (19%)
  • Box 139: 38 of 38 (100%)
  • Overall: 49% of the 7,464 manuscripts uploaded to the website have been transcribed thus far.

5% of the transcripts from both boxes 72 and 116 were worked on during the last week. We hope that the lists of untranscribed material for boxes 71, 72 and 73 proved useful – we will do the same for all of the boxes in the hope that this makes identifying untranscribed manuscripts more straightforward.

Approximately 40,000 words were transcribed this week, and thank you, as ever, to all those who gave their time and effort in producing this mammoth amount of work. We remain extremely grateful.
