Deaf man from Brentwood circa 1920

This gentleman, whose name we do not know, was a carpenter.  On the left we see him in photographer Mr. Hallet’s garden by his dark room, on the right he is in a uniform – we believe it is that of a fireman but the writing on the reverse is unclear.  All we can say is that he was from Brentwood.  Can anyone identify him?
