Doctor of Education (EdD) at the IOE
Welcome to the Doctor of Education (EdD)
Since 1994, the EdD has provided a route into practice-based research for professionals working in education roles to engage in part-time doctoral research while working in a professional context.
An EdD differs from a PhD route because students start by undertaking taught courses with a cohort of fellow-practitioners before moving on to engage in extended research in practice contexts.
The challenge of doctoral study is significant, but being at the IOE means you are following the footsteps of many thousands of educators who, since 1902 have joined us to keep pushing the boundaries of research, practice and theory in education. EdD students come from a range of backgrounds and all bring unique and important expertise to their learning journey.
This blog provides some examples of the kinds of resources we provide at the IOE, the current research being undertaken by the EdD academic staff and our candidates; and links to useful reading about the practice and process of studying for an EdD qualification.
Whether you are an EdD alumni, a current student or just EdD curious, we hope you enjoy what you find.
