IOA Library Summer Vacation Opening Hours

Opening hours

Between Sunday 14th June and Sunday 27th September, the Institute of Archaeology Library will be working on summer vacation opening hours. These are:

Monday – Friday: 9.30 a.m. – 9.00 p.m.

Saturday: 11.00 am. – 6.00 p.m.

Sunday: closed

Please note: we will be closed for the Bank Holiday on Monday 31st August and for the annual UCL Library Services Conference on Tuesday 21st July.

Loan statuses

The loan statuses of books stay the same throughout the summer vacation and all books remain subject to recall.  If you are planning to be away from the university studying or going on excavations, please make arrangements to continue to renew your books and return them if they are recalled from you. Fines will still be payable on all books that are late back.

Library Late Opening on this Friday

The Institute of Archaeology Library will be opening late, at 10.00 a.m. this Friday 24th of April owing to our regular monthly staff meeting.

Sorry for any inconveniences.

The book bin will be left open for the return of items.

Laptop Loans for Students

This new clip-art-laptops-990350 service provides a short term loan of a laptop to UCL students from the following UCL Library Services sites:

The Laptops may be borrowed from the self-service cabinets Monday-Friday between 08.00 and 20.00. Laptops must be returned by 22:00 on the day of loan, or the time the library closes, whichever is earlier.

The New UCL Senate House Hub

senate-house-2The new UCL Senate House Hub is now open to students, providing an extra 144 study spaces for UCL staff and students. The space is located on the 3rd floor of the South Block of Senate House, about 5 minutes walk from the IOA.

The Hub provides areas for individual study with task lighting and desktop power, and dedicated group work rooms and sofa booths for project work. Print@UCL devices and wifi are also available.

Reduced online library services, 20th – 23rd February

Donaldson_Reading_Room,_UCLDuring planned UCL datacentre maintenance between 17:00 Friday 20th and 08:00 Monday 23rd February some online library services will be affected.

The Digital Collections service, including Exam Papers, will be unavailable. The information about the current availability of items in our libraries will not be up to date.  You will not be able to sign into Explore to access your library account, place requests, book rooms or renew items. You may still borrow and return books at our libraries, and access to electronic resources (electronic books, journals and databases) is not affected.

Services are scheduled to return to normal from 08:00 on Monday 23rd February, but should be considered ‘at risk’ throughout that morning.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Main Library Reference Service

Following its refurbishment, members of the Main Library Reference Team will be available again question-mark-red in the Reference Room 1100-1700 to sit with readers and discuss their immediate information needs. A telephone and a list of numbers has been provided for readers to contact the Reference and Subject Librarians as required otherwise.
