The talk is titled:Think Language First: the ATLAS-Leiden Manifesto

‘This talk will present Think Language First: the ATLAS-Leiden Manifesto, written to raise awareness among researchers, professionals and policy makers about the importance of keeping track of language development in school-age children (6-16) and providing relevant support programmes for their language needs. The Manifesto is the outcome of a 40-hour international workshop (Leiden, September 2021) organised by the group of linguists ATLAS, that brought researchers from Linguistics, Education, Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, together with professionals (speech & language therapists, paediatricians, teachers, education consultants) and other stakeholders (e.g., parents’ associations) and policy advisors from 10 different countries. The Manifesto was launched at the House of Lords the 30th January 2024, endorsed by over 55 organizations. Close to its first anniversary, we want to share its journey of development and discuss ways to make it count to influence research agendas and policies.

The Manifesto can be accessed here:

We look forward to seeing you there!
