Entrepreneurship Guest Lecture: Hanse Ventures – Building great companies

This week’s ‘Entrepreneurship Guest Lecture Series’ talk was given by Sarik Weber, serial entrepreneur and co-founder of Hanse Ventures. UCL students Mansour Abdulghaffar and Carolina Mostert summarise his lecture below.

Weber’s background

Weber is a graduate student of European Business Studies from Osnabrueck, Germany, and also studied at Buckinghamshire Business School and Deusto, San Sebastián. During his career, amongst his many start-ups, Weber helped to build XING AG and founded Cellity AG which was sold to Nokia in 2009. On 1 February 2010 Weber founded his latest and current company in Hamburg, Germany: Hanse Ventures GmbH, a start-up incubator for entrepreneurs and their ideas.

Entrepreneurship Guest Lecture: The do-it-better mentality

This week’s ‘Entrepreneurship Guest Lecture Series’ talk was given by Richard Barkey, the Founder and current CEO at training specialist Imparta. UCL students Mansour Abdulghaffar and Carolina Mostert summarise his lecture below.

Richard’s background

Barkey is an Engineering graduate from Cambridge University and did an MBA at Harvard. He then joined McKinsey for seven years as a conventional consultant. During those years, specifically when working in the field of training, Barkey felt that he “could do it better”. This do-it-better mentality then evolved spin-out Imparta, which turned over £9 million last year.

Entrepreneurship Guest Lecture Series: Open Innovation

This week’s ‘Entrepreneurship Guest Lecture Series’ talk was given by UCL alumnus Jogesh Limbani, Head of Open Innovation at Orange Labs UK in Chiswick, West London. UCL students Mansour Abdulghaffar and Carolina Mostert summarise his lecture below.

Jogesh’s background
Limbani completed a BEng in Software Engineering at the University of Sheffield and an MSc in Telecommunications at UCL. He recently returned to UCL for an EngD in the field of communications.

After joining Orange in 2002, Limbani held seven positions within his first three years. Among those, he started off as software developer and then became project manager for a team of seventeen people. He then became the labs’ Head of Research and is now Head of Innovation, the first holder of this title within Orange.
