About the ELOPE-GDM Interview Study

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar (glucose) that develops during a pregnancy and usually disappears after giving birth. It can happen at any stage of pregnancy but is more common in the second or third trimester. It’s important to manage it during pregnancy and after birth to try and prevent it from progressing to type 2 diabetes.

This study forms part of a wider programme of work run by the University of Oxford, which is investigating the long-term health outcomes, healthcare costs, and personal experiences of women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes. In this part of the study we are interviewing women who have had gestational diabetes in that last two years.

The findings from this study will inform future research on the development of new interventions to prevent and treat gestational diabetes.

The team have presented the findings of the study to academic audiences at various conferences over the summer. Above is an example of our prize-winning poster from the Royal Society Of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) World Congress.
