Start of Term: Key Support from Digital Education

As the new term begins, we’ve reviewed the most common queries we typically receive at this time of year. Based on these insights, we’ve highlighted key considerations and signposted guidance and resources to support you and your colleagues during the start of this new academic year. 

Raising Queries: Use MyServices 

Dedicated support for all centrally supported tools and services is available via MyServices, including WISEflow. For support, advice and training for learning technologies, digital accessibility, digital skills, online learning, assessment and media production:

Workshops 

Browse the Digital Skills Development calendarand apply the “Teaching and Assessment” filter to find relevant sessions.

Panopto & Lecturecast 

Delayed Assessment Permits (DAPs) 

  • Functionality to enable DAPS to be updated in Moodle automatically, against summative assessments that have been mapped against SITS records is currently in development and will be available in term one.
    Guidance on granting extensions (SORA/EC/DAP).  

Hidden Courses 

  • If a student is enrolled but cannot see a course, check that it hasn’t been hidden by staff or by the student in their “My courses” view.
    Ensure the filter (top left) is set to “All” and check the “Removed from view” tab. 

Enrolment Issues 

  • If a student lacks access, check the module registration list on Portico.
    Guidance on Portico Enrolments. If Portico mapping is activated in Moodle, updates will sync overnight. 

Birkbeck Teaching Spaces – 25/26 

  • UCL staff and students can now make use of Birkbeck’s learning and teaching spaces. ISD is working to provide IT facilities in Birkbeck but there are some limitations you should be aware of.

Moodle App 

  • The Moodle App is not supported at UCL.
    Students and staff should use a web browser to access Moodle.
