Could you be the Editorial Director we’re searching for?

UCL Press is searching for a new an Editorial Director to lead our editorial team- could it be you?

The successful candidate will have significant experience of commissioning books in a scholarly publishing environment, including HE textbook publishing, along with a strong understanding of open access publishing and policy, scholarly research and higher education. This is a public facing role, in which you will represent UCL Press both at the institution and beyond, and which requires a proactive, solutions-focussed and collaborative approach, along with plenty of ideas, persuasiveness and tact. Reporting to the Head of Publishing, you will manage two commissioning editors and will build on and develop the vibrant publishing programme that has already been established at UCL Press through strong relationship building with authors, senior academic colleagues and the UCL Press Board, and through collaboration and networking in the wider sector at a national and international level.

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 8. The salary range will be £43,884 – £51,769 Per Annum; inclusive of London Allowance.

UCL Press launched in 2015 as the UK’s first fully open access university press. In that time it has published over 100 open access scholarly books and textbooks, which have achieved around 1.8 million downloads around the world. UCL Press now plans to increase its publishing and is seeking an Editorial Director to lead its commissioning activity and deliver its plans for growth, with a particular focus on expanding textbook publishing and developing its digital publishing.

Could you be our new admin assistant?

We’re looking for a new admin assistant to help support the UCL Press team! Could it be you?

This is a rare opportunity to join a fantastic team who are incredibly knowledgeable, experienced and friendly, who have already made a splash in the academic publishing world. Reporting to the Publishing Manager, the postholder will mainly be responsible for assisting with the Press’s marketing and distribution activities as well as other general administrative duties to support the UCL Press team on a part-time basis.

The postholder will play a key role in the team,  supporting the Publishing Manager, Managing Editor, Commissioning Editor, Marketing and Distribution Manager and Journals Manager in a wide variety of tasks. The ideal candidate will be someone with some marketing and publicity experience, preferably in book publishing, with strong Excel and Powerpoint skills, social media and website experience, with excellent interpersonal skills who is highly organised and methodical.

The role holder will also be expected to undertake other related tasks such as updating the website, writing and commissioning blog posts, writing AIs, and other associated sales and marketing activities. This is a wonderful opportunity to play a key role in the early phases of a dynamic new university press at one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Could you be our new Journals Manager?

We’re searching for a dedicated Journals Manager to join our team! The role will look after our growing portfolio of open access scholarly journals, and will have  responsibility for acquiring new journals, acting as the main point of contact for journal editors, and overseeing all aspects of the production and promotion of UCL Press’s open access journals, including responsibility for managing hosting platforms. This varied role will also include responsibility for developing UCL Press’s growing student journals activity.

We are looking for someone with experience of acquiring and managing scholarly journals, who is seeking a challenging and a varied role at one of the UK’s leading universities. This is a rare opportunity to join a fantastic team who are incredibly knowledgeable, experienced and supportive, and really make an impact on the success of  our rapidly growing open access journals programme. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of  experience of acquiring new journals, building effective relationships with journal editors, and have a solid understanding of issues and trends in open access journal publishing.
