Progress update, 25 to 31 August 2012

By Tim Causer, on 31 August 2012

Welcome to the progress update for the period 25 to 31 August 2012, during which time fantastic progress has been made.

4,168 manuscripts have now been transcribed or partially transcribed, which is an increase of 76 on this time last week. Of these transcripts, 3,949 (94%) are now complete and have been locked. We should, all being well, be able to say this time next week that our 4,000th transcript has been locked.

  • Box 2: 336 manuscripts transcribed of 532 (63%)
  • Box 27: 348 of 350 (99%)
  • Box 35: 266 of 439 (60%)
  • Box 50: 60 of 92 (65%)
  • Box 51: 150 of 940 (15%)
  • Box 62: 53 of 565 (9%)
  • Box 70: 172 of 250 (49%)
  • Box 71: 651 of 665 (97%)

  • Box 79: 122 of 199 (61%)
  • Box 95: 80 of 147 (54%)
  • Box 96: 526 of 539 (97%)
  • Box 97: 32 of 288 (10%)
  • Box 98: 9 of 499 (1%)
  • Box 100: 89 of 433 (20%)
  • Box 115: 263 of 307 (80%)
  • Box 116: 216 of 864 (24%)
  • Box 139: 38 of 38 (100%)
  • Overall: 52% of the 8,068 manuscripts uploaded to the website have been transcribed thus far.

Boxes 51, 79, and 115 were the most heavily transcribed during the past seven days; 13% of the manuscripts from Box 79 were transcribed this week, and at that rate, the whole box will be finished within a few weeks!

Thank you, as ever, to all who have so generously given their time to Transcribe Bentham during the past week. We remain extremely grateful.

Welcome to the progress update for the period 4 to 24 August 2012, during which time further excellent progress has been made – particularly while the the Olympics provided alternative pleasures. Apologies again for the delay in attending to submissions while I was on leave, and thank you to all volunteers for your forbearance. Normal weekly updates have now resumed!

Thank you, as ever, to all those who have given their time and effort so generously to Transcribe Bentham during the past few weeks. It is, as always, greatly appreciated.

Progress update, 28 July to 3 August 2012

By Tim Causer, on 3 August 2012

Welcome to the progress update for the period 28 July to 3 August 2012.

The 4,000 transcript mark has been well and truly broken: 4,014 manuscripts have now been transcribed or partially transcribed, which is an increase of 20 on last week’s total. Volunteers have now transcribed, at a very conservative estimate, over 2 million words (not including TEI markup).

Of these transcripts, 3,782 (94%) are now complete and have been locked, up 23 on this time last week.

The more detailed state of progress is as follows:

  • Box 2: 335 manuscripts transcribed of 532 (63%)
  • Box 27: 348 of 350 (99%)
  • Box 35: 265 of 439 (60%)
  • Box 50: 59 of 92 (64%)
  • Box 51: 91 of 940 (9%)
  • Box 62: 53 of 565 (9%)
  • Box 70: 171 of 250 (48%)
  • Box 71: 651 of 665 (97%)
  • Box 72: 604 of 664 (90%)
  • Box 73: 151 of 151 (100%)
  • Box 79: 86 of 199 (43%)
  • Box 95: 72 of 147 (48%)
  • Box 96: 526 of 539 (97%)
  • Box 97: 30 of 288 (10%)
  • Box 100: 89 of 433 (20%)
  • Box 115: 245 of 307 (79%)
  • Box 116: 200 of 864 (22%)
  • Box 139: 38 of 38 (100%)
  • Overall: 53% of the 7,464 manuscripts uploaded to the website have been transcribed thus far.

Several boxes of material are now near completion: only two manuscripts from Box 27 need to be fully transcribed, while another seven require finishing off; Box 71 has four untranscribed manuscripts, and two requiring completion before we can lock that box; and Box 73 has only one partially-transcribed manuscript to be completed before that batch of material is finished with too. Lists are available of all of the untranscribed manuscripts, and of the partially-transcribed sheets requiring completion.

As mentioned elsewhere on the blog, this will be the last weekly progress update for a couple of weeks – I am on annual leave after today until Monday 20 August. The Transcription Desk will of course remain available, but submissions will not be checked until I return – apologies  for any inconvenience this might cause. In the meantime, happy transcribing, enjoy what remains of the summer, and thank you – as always – to all those who have given their time and effort to Transcribe Bentham during the last seven days. It remains very much appreciated.
