Introduction to Research Support @ UCL – courses for all PhD students: 01/03 and 28/03

UCLQuadThis new regular training course is running to introduce PhD students to research support available during the course of their studies.

It is relevant for all PhD students, whatever the stage reached in their project and is applicable to all disciplines.

The half-day session will focus on Research Integrity, Research Data Management, Data Protection, Research Ethics, Open Access and Research IT. It will highlight good practices in these areas, as well as explain the expectations of researchers.

The next dates are

  • Wednesday 1st March, 2-5pm
  • Tuesday 28th March, 10am-1pm

Open Access, UCL Press, research data & research IT drop-in – 26 October, 3pm

All UCL staff are invited to a drop-in session to find out more about open access options, research data and research IT support available at UCL. The session will take place on Wednesday 26th of October from 3pm in the Anatomy Building and will be followed by a book launch.

Research Programming – next Technical Social event: 12 May

Publications accepted from 1 April 2016? Deposit within 3 months to comply with the REF policy

To be eligible for submission to the next REF, publications accepted from 1 April 2016 must have been deposited in an open access repository.

It is best practice to deposit in UCL Discovery as soon as your work (journal articles, conference proceedings, books and book chapters) is accepted for publication. Outputs not deposited within 3 months of publication cannot be submitted to the REF.OAlogo

Open Access Publishing for ECRs – 9 March, 2-3pm

What is a Data Access Statement and do I need one in my publication?

Some research funders such as the EPSRC require you to include Data Access Statements in your pending publications. The RCUK Policy on Open Access also states that

“All papers must include details of the funding that supported the research and, if applicable, a statement on how the underlying research materials – such as data, samples or models – can be accessed.”
