There’s more than one way to co-create!

By Niccola, on 25 September 2020

All of the co-creation work that we do is open to anyone who wants to get involved. However, we’re conscious that a co-creation session via video call or face-to-face workshop (COVID-19 permitting) isn’t for everyone, so we’ve been careful to provide different ways to get involved, always making sure that everything is fed into the Centre development.

Different ways to get involved in the Centre for Co-production work include receiving things we are working on via post or shared online document, 1-to-1 phone calls or, as in this case, surveys or polls. Or, any other way that you tell us you’d like to get involved.

What are Centre co-producers currently working on?

At the moment, we’re all focussed on co-creating our name, logo and identity and… it’s an exciting time! Sam and Emily from Big Lemon/Studio Hicks (who are helping us with this work) recently shared their first drafts of possible design ideas for our name, logo, and identity! Lots of feedback was discussed as part of the ‘Co-creating our brand’ session we ran on 17 September. However, we want to make sure that everyone who wants to can get involved, not just those who were able to make the co-creation sessions. We want you to join us in working on this!

So, Sam and Emily have prepped a few questions relating to the three example designs that they shared on 17 September. We would love for you to take a quick look and answer the questions. The short survey includes pictures of the draft design ideas for you to look at.

Things to consider before completing the survey

Please bear in mind the following:

  • The name, logo and identity that we develop is about the Centre and what is best for the Centre to help us all collectively achieve our aims
  • The designs shared in the survey are not the final designs, they are a first attempt and there to prompt discussion and reactions
    • It may be that we decide we want to combine elements from several of the designs, or choose something completely new – we absolutely don’t have to stay within these boundaries
  • The form is anonymous so feel free to be blunt in your responses! 🙂

What do I need to do to complete the survey?

To complete the survey please go to our Google forms page.

If you would like a downloaded PDF copy of the survey emailed to you, or a paper copy of the survey posted to you, or to be talked through the images please just ask by emailing us on coproduction@ucl.ac.uk – this is not a problem at all.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please can you come back to us by the end of Tuesday 6 October 2020 at the latest.

What will happen to the survey responses?

All of the responses will be studied in detail by Emily and fed into her work as she further refines the draft designs for the Centre’s name, logo and identity. Emily will then share updated designs for us all to look at.

Payment for taking part in co-creation work

If you are joining in with any of our co-creation work as a member of the public and would like to receive payment for your time and contribution, this is no problem at all. Please get in touch and we can discuss options with you and will then get you set up so that you can be paid. We can also offer support with paying for phone minutes, landline call charges or phone data in order to take part in conference or video calls – let us know what you need. As outlined below we will be working on our official policy for payment soon, so it is clear for everyone to see. In the the meantime we are using the NIHR advised rates of £75 for 4 hours or £150 for 8 hours/a full day.

Coming soon!

We will be sharing more co-creation opportunities using alternative methods (i.e. not just workshops) soon. Next up is…

  • Co-creation of our governance structure (i.e. the way we set up the Centre and how we make decisions) including policy for payment of co-producers.

By the way… if you haven’t yet signed up for our official launch on 22 October 2020 please do. We would love for you to join us!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us on coproduction@ucl.ac.uk.
