E-leaves, Winter 2016
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
Whether you’re going elsewhere for Christmas or staying in London we wish you all the best and look forward to welcoming you back next term.
In the meantime, don’t forget that all our online resources are available wherever you are in the world with your UCL username and password and you could explore some that you don’t normally use such as Literature Online which has lots of prose, poetry & plays for your perusal. Otherwise you could spend some time catching up with our Exhibitions and lots more of our treasures which have been digitised in our Digital Collections.
UCL announced on 17th November 2016 that UCL Library Services moved from UCL Professional Services to report to the Vice-Provost (Research), Prof David Price.
Spotlight on Special Collections
UCL Special Collections is in the process of joining forces with three other groups in UCL Library Services: the Records Office, the Institute Of Education’s Archives and Special Collections, and the Retrospective Cataloguing Team.
Here to Help
Our Customer Service team are responsible for the strategic development and delivery of excellent customer service across UCL Library Services. One of our objectives is to obtain the Customer Service Excellence Standard and we were fortunate to have a Graduate Trainee work with us this year, which resulted in a comprehensive report covering Customer Service Excellence and User Experience in UCL Library Services.
Steps to Knowledge
The Baines Collection, which consists of 200 children’s books dating from 1700 to 1920, can be found in the UCL Institute of Education’s Special Collections. Nazlin Bhimani recently came across a letter relevant to the provenance of the collection and shares her insight.
Developments at the Institute of Education
It was a hectic summer for us here in the UCL Institute of Education Library. We have been transformed, with lots of new improvements and services introduced, including the newly configured Welcome Point.
We’re making improvements to the ground floor of the Science Library to enhance the learning facilities and make it quicker and easier for you to get advice from our help points. There are also improvements taking place in the Main Library and Cruciform Hub.
This term we said goodbye to Jes Cooban after 23 years as Ancient World Librarian at UCL. Jes will be much missed but she leaves a legacy of orderliness and some great stories like the fascinating history of our Yates Collection.
