UCL now has access to JET Magazine Archive and Atla – Perspectives on Ancient Civilizations, 1200-1922 .

JET Magazine Archive covers the civil rights movement, politics, education, and other social topics with an African American focus. It includes over 3,000 issues providing a broad view of news, culture, and entertainment from its first issue in 1951 until 2014.

Atla – Perspectives on Ancient Civilizations, 1200-1922 features nearly 900 monographs related to ancient civilizations and cultures from to the Biblical and Classical periods, including Assyrian, Babylonian, Sumerian, Egyptian, Hittite, Greek, and others. The collection covers cultures that existed alongside the Hebrew people who had a strong influence on the formation of the Hebrew scriptures. It includes significant holdings concerning the Akkadian, Syriac, Sumerian, and Egyptian languages and subject areas such as literature, mythology, inscriptions, religion, philosophy, and law.

 To set up access to your BFI Player subscription follow these steps: 

  • Go to https://player.bfi.org.uk/academic/subscribe and create an account OR sign in if you already have one by selecting ‘Already have an account? Sign in’
  • Select University College London from the dropdown list
  • Login using your UCL username and password

Make sure you tick the box ‘I’d like to receive the BFI Player newsletter’ for exclusive competitions, watchlists and other BFI opportunities via email.

UCL now has access to Linguistic Minorities in Europe Online (LME) from De Gruyter.

Linguistic Minorities in Europe Online provides comprehensive documentation of indigenous and immigrant linguistic minorities in Europe.

LME contains a variety of content and materials:

  • Standardized overview articles on a given linguistic minority on a variety of topics, including but not limited to linguistic description, variation, attitudes, demographics, status, education and revitalization.
  • In-depth research articles on specific topics regarding European minority languages/linguistic minorities, including sociolinguistic, psycholinguistic, and ethnolinguistic perspectives
  • Multimedia elements (audios, videos, images)
  • Primary sources, such as annotated texts, transcriptions, corpora, glossaries, field notes, etc. (Open Access as well as non-Open Access)

Currently, LME contains, amongst others, articles on BasqueBretonCroatianFrisianHungarianIrish, the Sámi languages, and Turkish as minority languages (content about further languages is in preparation). New articles will be added annually (in two yearly updates).
