Access to Oxford Scholarly Authorities on International Law now available

UCL now has access to Oxford Scholarly Authorities on International Law (OSAIL). OSAIL contains the full-text of reference works, commentaries and treatises on international law from Oxford University Press, such as Oppenheim and the Oxford Commentaries on International Law series – see a full list of the titles available.

Return of e-books on demand@UCL via JSTOR

25,000+ e-books available via JSTOR for a limited period – read the e-books you want and UCL Library Services will buy the most popular.

At the end of last year, UCL Library Services began a series of projects involving users in the acquisition of e-book content. UCL students and staff have been able to read and download 1000s of extra e-books across a wide range of subjects, with UCL Library Services buying those used most often and adding them to our existing collection of over 400,000 e-books.

Access to additional JSTOR e-books proved very popular so we are once again offering UCL staff and students access to a large part of the JSTOR e-book collection. You can now read over 25,000 e-books via JSTOR across a range of subjects and we will buy the most-used titles to add to our e-book collection. The access will end once the money we have deposited has been spent – we’ll keep you notified with updates via this blog. We are busy loading records so that you can find these additional e-books via Explore.

Encyclopedia of applied linguistics

UCL now has access to the Encyclopedia of applied linguistics.

The Encyclopedia of applied linguistics is a reference work covering the highly diverse field of applied linguistics. It includes over 1,100 entries written by an international team of scholars from over 40 countries, making it ideal for students, teachers, researchers, and practitioners in the interdisciplinary field of applied linguistics.

Features include:

  • Covers 27 key areas of the field, including Language Learning and Teaching, Bilingual and Multilingual Education, Assessment and Testing, Corpus Linguistics, Conversation Analysis, Discourse, Cognitive Second Language Acquisition, Language Policy and Planning, Literacy, and Technology and Language
  • Features over 200 entries on the philosophy and history of applied linguistics and biographies of key applied linguists

Comprehensive Physiology now available

UCL now has access to Comprehensive Physiology.

Comprehensive Physiology is the most authoritative and comprehensive collection of physiology information ever assembled, and uses features of review journals and electronic reference works to cover the latest key developments in the field through the most authoritative articles on the subjects covered. This makes Comprehensive Physiology a valued reference work on the evolving science of physiology for both researchers and clinicians. It also provides a useful teaching tool for instructors and an informative resource for medical students and other students in the life and health sciences.

Additionally, Comprehensive Physiology comprises an archive of more than 30,000 pages of content from the American Physiological Society’s renowned Handbook of Physiology (HoP), which was published as a series of books from 1977 to 2008, presented here for the first time in digital format.

UCL now has access to the Encyclopedia of Ancient Greek Language and Linguistics.

The Encyclopedia of Ancient Greek Language and Linguistics brings together the latest research from across a range of disciplines which contribute to our knowledge of Ancient Greek. With over 500 entries on all aspects of Ancient Greek, it is a comprehensive research tool for scholars and students of Greek, of Linguistics, and of other Indo-European languages, as well as of Biblical literature.

Features and benefits include:

-Extensive cross-references and navigation via hyperlinks

The Encyclopedia of Ancient History now available

UCL now has access to The Encyclopedia of Ancient History, a comprehensive collection of twenty-first century scholarship available on the entire ancient Mediterranean world.

The Encyclopedia of Ancient History includes over 5,000 original entries spanning the late Bronze Age through the seventh century CE, which extend to all Mediterranean civilizations including the Near East and Egypt, and represent an unprecedented level of coverage of the ancient world.

The Encyclopedia of Ancient History updates twice annually and in June 2015 it will update with approximately 100 new articles. Over the next several years, its coverage will expand to include parts of Ancient Asia and Africa.

E-books on demand@UCL

UCL Library Services is now running three pilot projects involving users in the acquisition of e-book content.

For a trial period, UCL students and staff can read and download 1000s of extra e-books across a wide range of subjects. UCL Library Services will buy those used most often and add them to our existing collection of over 300,000 e-books.

Like existing UCL e-books, these additional e-books can be found using Explore – search All Resources then filter by Online resource and Books. Alternatively you can go directly to one of the three websites where the additional e-books are hosted:

The Cambridge Edition of the Works of Ben Jonson Online presents a complete reappraisal of this major Renaissance writer, complementing and extending the seven-volume print edition of Jonson’s works published in 2012.
