UCL Professional Services Conference and Awards – nominations now open

By Benjamin Meunier, on 9 May 2019

The Professional Services Conference 2019 will be held on Monday 24 June at Logan Hall, UCL Institute of Education. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Becoming one professional services community’. We will be exploring how connected colleagues feel to UCL and the rest of the PS community and empowering us all to do something. Registration is open until 17 June so book your place now. Library Services staff are eligible to register, subject to line manager approval. Although we are part of the Office of the Vice-Provost (Research), you can register with a “Library Services” ticket (in the list):

There are three ways for you to get involved with this year’s Professional Services Conference:

1) PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AWARDS

UCL Library Services has a track record in gaining awards from previous conferences, with awards granted to the Main and Science Library Daytime and Evening/Weekend teams in 2016, UCL Press in 2017 and the GOSH-ICH Library refurbishment team in 2018. If you have been involved in work which you feel deserves recognition on a UCL-wide level, why not enter a nomination for this year?

Four of this year’s awards relate to the newly launched Ways of Working for professional services. You can find definitions of the Ways of Working around the themes of Personal Excellence, Working Together and Achieving our Mission at www.ucl.ac.uk/ways-of-working.

Please use the definitions provided at www.ucl.ac.uk/ways-of-working to support your nominations. You will find a downloadable overview of the Ways of Working by downloading the wheel and descriptors pdf, and more grade-related detail by looking at the relevant supporting indicators. Explore the categories and tell us how the person you are nominating delivers their work in ways outlined by the framework.

This year we have seven award categories:

  • Leadership Award for Outstanding Contribution
  • Way of Working – Personal Excellence Award
  • Way of Working – Working Together Award
  • Way of Working – Outstanding Individual Contribution to Achieving our Mission
  • Way of Working – Outstanding Team Contribution to Achieving our Mission
  • Community Spirit Award
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Staff Experience

If you are interested in nominating yourself or a colleague for one of these awards, please complete the nomination form. Guidance notes are available on the Professional Services Conference website. Please note that nominations close on Monday 3 June at 5pm.

If you have any questions, please contact professionalservices@ucl.ac.uk.

2) LET’S DO THIS NOW!

Do you have an idea for a positive change that could be made at UCL? We are inviting colleagues to submit ideas that can contribute towards making UCL even better! A selection of deas would then be pitched in a 1 minute Dragon’s Den style format (by yourself or one of our PS Conference organising team) to a judging panel.

Please complete the submission form to find out more and send in your idea!

3) MY GREAT PLACE TO WORK

Is there something extra-ordinary that yourself or your team / faculty / Department are already doing to make UCL a great place to work each day? We are looking for volunteers to deliver a short 6 minute presentation. Please contact professionalservices@ucl.ac.uk with any ideas.
