New version of Find UPI

By Tim J Purkiss, on 30 July 2014

Some users may remember that we tried to release an updated version of Find UPI last year but withdrew the new version because of some other pending changes to ISD server infrastructure. We’ve now had the chance to revisit this new version and you can start using it immediately. For more information, click More…

How to access the new version:

You will find the new version on the services@UCL gateway. Search for Find UPI and select the link to the Find UPI site, or visit the Find UPI area and select the Live System link.

The new version is also available from the old Admin Systems launch page. Select the “Live System – New version” link.

If you have trouble with the new version, the older version will be available until the end of August (see the UAT link in services@UCL).

What’s Changed?

The following changes are in the new version:

  • Login now uses UCL’s Single Sign-On service (a.k.a. Shibboleth) using the standard UCL userid and password (though you still need to be registered to use the tool).
  • Hosted on ISD’s new application servers and using standard web technologies (unlike the old version which was created using non-standard architecture).
  • Preferred name and main e-mail address are now displayed.
  • More details of a person’s user account, including status and associated primary e-mail address.
  • Associations are now sorted by date with the active association at the top.
  • Visitor types are now included with the association.

Known issues with the new version:

The prompt to login again after a session times out is not handled well at the moment – we’ll look at improving that.

Contact the Identity Apps team via upi AT ucl.ac.uk if you notice anything else.
