Environmental Careers Week is back! We’ve got a week of wide-ranging activities designed to help you find out more about the variety of opportunities in this popular sector including information on routes in and how to gain valuable work experience.
Entering the Environment Sector: Employer Forum for PhDs and Researchers
Monday 10 February 2014: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
An opportunity to question, hear from and network with employers from the Environment sector who are PhD holders themselves. The panel of speakers will give tips on how research students can use their qualifications and experiences to enter this field as well as information about their sector.
Tuesday 11 February: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Renewable energy or energy conservation covers a wide range of careers including those who support it as well as those who make it. This forum and networking session will address the variety of energy careers connected with the environment and provide you with the opportunity to hear from UCL alumni and others how they have made careers in the sector.
Environmental Policy, Strategy and Consultancy Panel Forum
Wednesday 12 February: 1:30pm – 3:00pm
Are you wondering what the career opportunities might be in the environment sector? Would you like inside information to help you with the first step on the ladder or boost your application? This Forum will help anyone who wants answers to these questions. The Forum consists of hearing from experts in this area, showing you the types of roles available, sharing their career stories and tips to success. This will be followed by a Q&A session. Afterward there will be an opportunity to network with panellists on a one to one basis.
UCLU Environmental Volunteering Fair
Wednesday 12 February: 6pm – 8pm
Find out about a world of opportunities and get involved. Whether you like getting your hands dirty with a spot of practical conservation, are passionate about campaigning on environmental issues or are just curious about what’s on offer, come along any time between 6pm and 8pm.
The Built Environment
Thursday 13 February: 1pm – 2pm
Find out about how architects and builders take account of environmental issues in their work and discover some of the skills you might need to work successfully in this field.
CV and Application Advice
Thursday 13th February, 2pm – 4pm
If you are considering a career in this sector it is advisable to have a CV that will reflect your interest and experience in the best light possible. Change Agents recruit graduates for a range of careers and offer volunteering experiences and training so they have a wealth of experience you can tap into. They will be offering advice and guidance on how to show yourself off to best advantage. You will need to bring a copy of your CV.
Biodiversity, Campaigning and Environmental Management
Thursday 13th February, 5.30pm – 7.30pm
This event is for anyone considering a career in managing the environment and who has a concern for maintaining biodiversity. Invited speakers will cover a range of careers in this sector to reflect its breadth and include UCL Alumni. The event will begin with a panel session for the first hour and conclude with an opportunity to talk to the speakers and others separately.
Friday 14th February, 2.00 to 4.00pm
UCL’s Volunteering Services Unit has hundreds of volunteering vacancies, including lots of exciting activities with environmental organisations. If you’ve an idea for your own project, they can help you set that up too. The VSU’s John Braime will be at UCL Careers to help you find the right volunteering opportunity that suits your interests and time availability. Come on your own or with a group for a 15 minute session.
