Progress update, 31 August to 6 September 2013
By Kris Grint, on 6 September 2013
Welcome to the Transcribe Bentham weekly progress update for the period 31 August to 6 September 2013. Fantastic progress continues to be made by our volunteers, who this week transcribed 7,217 words of Bentham text as well as 3,198 words of TEI XML.
6,035 manuscripts have now been transcribed or partially-transcribed, which is an increase of 22 on last week’s total. Of these transcripts, 5,744 have met the required quality-controls and are complete, which is up 23 on this time last week. The new Box 121 continues to receive the most attention, which is unsurprising given the fascinating accounts it contain of Bentham’s attempts to rescue his Panopticon scheme, such as this exchange of letters with Evan Nepean transcribed by volunteer Ohsoldgirl.
The more detailed state of progress is as follows:

Finally, a last call for those who have not yet seen or heard us mentioned on the BBC last week in a feature about prison food in the Panopticon. The audio feature for PM on BBC Radio 4, along with a video showing the making of Bentham’s Devonshire pie are both available from the UCL Bentham Project’s homepage.
We wish to express our gratitude to all our volunteers for their hard work this week, which continues to surpass our expectations of quality and quantity. Your efforts are all greatly appreciated.
