Transcribe Bentham User Survey

By Tim Causer, on 28 January 2011

Following the publication just after Christmas of a New York Times article in which Transcribe Bentham featured, we have seen unprecedented traffic to the Transcription Desk and great growth in the number of users transcribing and contributing to the project.

Now, then, would appear to be the perfect time to launch our Transcribe Bentham User Survey, as we look to gain the opinions and thoughts of as many of our contributors as possible. This will allow us to examine in more depth the user-base, find out what contributors think of the transcription experience, and identify any avenues for potential future improvements to the website and transcription interface.

Depending on your answers, there are between 20 to 40 questions – though don’t be frightened off by that! Most questions are multiple choice, the survey should take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete, and all responses are completely anonymised. You can also begin the survey and return to it at a later date if you wish.

We are just as interested in hearing from users who have not transcribed anything or just a little as we are from experienced and regular contributors, so if you can spare us a few moments of your time to complete the survey we would be extremely grateful.

The survey can be accessed here: https://opinio.ucl.ac.uk/s?s=12776

New Year and the New York Times

By uczwvhw, on 4 January 2011

Happy New Year to all our transcribers!

2011 looks set to be a very exciting and rewarding year at the Bentham Project. An article on Transcribe Bentham in the New York Times on December 27th and a recommendation in the New Yorker on December 28th have generated so much interest in the project that our number of registered users has more than tripled! We now have over 1000 transcribers and the editorial team has arrived back after the Christmas break to over 100 submissions! We are so grateful for all these contributions and the enthusiasm shown by our new, and our experienced, users. We will work through these submissions as quickly as possible and we will very shortly be uploading more of Bentham’s manuscripts to give you greater choice.

In the meantime happy transcribing and please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries.
