Trial access to The Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament Online (Brill)

By Sarah Gilmore, on 29 September 2017

UCL has trial access to The Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament Online from Brill until 28th Oct 2017.

The Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament Online is an up-to-date dictionary for the Old Testament and related literature in classical Hebrew and Aramaic which combines scholarly thoroughness with easy accessibility. The enormous advances that have taken place in the field of Semitic linguistics since the days of the older dictionaries of Classical Hebrew are well documented and assessed, as well as the often detailed discussions in modern Bible commentaries of words where the meaning is particularly difficult. Full text search and possibility to find conjugated verb forms in the context of their roots is particularly helpful to the new student. Specialist users will also find a wealth of bibliographical information on Old Testament exegesis.

The dictionary contains the complete vocabulary of the Hebrew Bible, extended with variants from the Oriental and Samaritan textual traditions, the Ben Sira fragments, and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Features

  • Full text search in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, English, transliterations and Scripture references
  • Conjugated verb forms immediately found in the context of their consonantal roots
  • Easily compare Hebrew and Aramaic lexemes
  • Cross references hypertexted
  • Powerful search features
