Global Terrorism Database

By Kieron L Jones, on 12 August 2009

GTD The Global Terrorism Database is a free open access database on terrorism which is maintained by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), a center associated with the US government Department of Homeland Security. It provides information on terrorist attacks, bombings and incidents worldwide from 1970-2007 (with planned future annual updates). It is possible to search the database for incidents in specific geographical regions, by particular groups or using particular weapons. Individual entries include numbers of casualties and background information on the perpetuators. It is possible to view some graphs / charts of trends in terrorism. Information on the compilation and sources of the data is provided on the website.
