Libraries Building Work News

By Cecile Dubuis, on 10 April 2008

UCL Science Library, DMS Watson building1.  UCL Science Library

Over the past year, UCL Library Services has been working on a proposal for the implementation of self-service technology within the Science Library.

The aim of this project is to modernise the existing issue desk service by installing self-service machines which use radio frequency identification (RFID). The service will allow for borrowing of books, renewals and returns during periods when the issue desk is closed.

This project will be implemented over the next few months and finish in the autumn. A project website will be ready soon, with a link from this blog.

UCL Human Communication Science Library, Remax House2.  UCL Human Communication Science Library

The Library, currently located at Remax House, will be returning to Chandler House during the week beginning 9th June, and plans to re-open on 16th June

The Library has now a new name to reflect its collections in language and speech sciences:

UCL Language & Speech Sciences Library

Further details on the move (and on the new name) can be found on the Library’s blog at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/Library/blog/hcs/.

UCL Main Library, Wilkins building3.  UCL Main Library

The refurbished area in the South Junction, with 64 reader places, is now open. The planned moves of bookstock and journals, including phonetics and linguistics materials, will take place after the summer exams.

The Main Library north corridor, reading rooms and end room are next on the list for attention.
